4 x CCRC boats sailed in the Emsworth Slipper Sailing Club Regatta on Saturday (Valinor, Arcadia, Albion of Cowes and Satisfaction) and were joined by Samurai for the Hog Roast. It was a great sailing day for those that missed it and Valinor (with Pam Marrs our Commodore onboard) lead most of the way round an interesting course but unfortunately lost their way at Bay; finally taking 2nd line honours and 3rd overall. Valinor and Arcadia moored outside Emsworth and dinghyed in, cheating the tide 2 hrs either side of low water!
Saturday saw the annual race between CCRC and Chichester Yacht Club with the winning team getting the Bramidge Trophy. The boats gathered on the start line in warm sunshine but almost no breeze. However, shortly after the PRO announced a short delay the sea breeze started to build. After a rerun start the 13 CCRC boats and 9 CYC boats started to beat out to the shipping channel and the breeze continued to strengthen to allow the full course of a “large triangle and sausage” to be sailed.
At CYC that evening after a splendid supper for all crews the result was announced as being a win for CCRC, so getting the Bramidge Trophy back from CYC.
Just to explain the postponement that you received last night….
As PRO for Sunday’s race, I have decided to postpone the race by an hour to 11.00. Low water is around 0800 and is pretty springy (0.7m). This will give Northney based yachts, in particular, problems leaving much before 0900. This makes it too tight for a 10.00 start in the bay. The extra hour of tidal height on the bar will also help, particularly if there is a bit of a blow. HW is around 14.00 so there will still be plenty of water over the bar after the finish.
