Cruise Start Delayed

The start of the cruise was delayed by strong winds so we partied in Sparkes, Northney and Itchenor.
Then, a day late, we sailed across the Channel directly to Fecamp rather than Le Havre. We did not race, which was just as well as the wind died when the sun came out and all 7 boats had to motor the last few hours.

Allegra Leaving Bermuda

Allegra is now on its way from Bermuda to the Azores. Having achieved 2nd place in Group sailing from British Virgin Islands to Bermuda (despite facing 49 knot winds approaching Bermuda) I am sure all members will join Pam, Sue and I in wishing Graham and the new crew well on this leg.

Lovely Day

Lovely day out there by the look of it. This was your start. looks better than cleaning the bottom of our boat which is our task for the day!

Winter Social

CCRC 2017 activities kicked off with the Winter Social. We had presentations and discussions on changes to the Racing Rules (with explanatory diagrams), this year’s VPRS Nationals (which CCRC is organising), the Club Spring Cruise (to Le Havre and beyond this year) and discussions about handicap management for the Beta fleet. This was followed by a splendid lunch and (for a few) a walk along the harbour shore.

Barts Bash

Not having done Bart’s Bash before it was fun and very different. Having no idea where you are placed (or in our case how far behind) is interesting; meeting different boats in different orders going round buoys in the opposite direction is a challenge. We have never gybed the chute so many times! And given we started about 10 mins late we were pleasantly surprised not to be last.

Dandy Hole

Meeting Slippers is always an adventure. Today we met for dinner anchored in Dandy Hole. The challenge was how to get stuart and Judi plus a cake to Intrepid for tea and back, then Bob and Sue plus wine and starter to Slippers and back with minimum effort. The solution was a rope ferry (like a chain ferry) using a tender as the ferry.
But there was more; read next post.

Further Adventures in Dandy Hole.

While dining we said ‘oh I don’t remember that boat being in front of us’ , then ‘oh I don’t remember that boat being alongside’, then ‘oh I don’t remember that boat being anchored behind us’. It’s dragging. Cue Stuart and Bob racing in the tender to catch it and let out more chain. Cue wine delivery from other boat later.
