A bit of a do in Cherbourg

Rockhopper arrived from Alderney; The Harribelle, Exeat and Kristell arrived from UK; Katya and Intrepid plus Avocet (with Colin Wallace onboard) arrived from St Vaast; and Slipstream came back from Omonville so as not to miss the party.

And Then There Were Two

And then there were two (on the cruise). Valinor cruised back east as did Gunshot, Arcadia cruised on west, while Slipstream and Intrepid set out to cross the channel.
After two days of windy weather we had a forecast of little wind in most directions. We saw what we presume was the ship lifting the yacht that sank in the round the island as we passed the Needles. Then we sailed a bit, then motored most of the way, motor sailed a bit, and sailed a bit. We had thick fog approaching Cherbourg but the radar showed no ships – they were probably all watching France beat Iceland.

Race Off (as in not happening)

Well, we did not sail to France today either so we will miss the Tour de France in Cherbourg. However, we did get to see the Round The Island race from above the Needles. A windy day indeed so smaller boats were prohibited (though you can see in the pictures that one did it anyway). The strong winds meant the multihull record was broken with the 50 mile plus course completed in 2 hours 23 mins! But also some incidents with one of the leaders dismasted at the Needles (see picture) and another yacht sank (missed that as we were having elevenses). Lots of yachts close to, and some we think inside, the Varvassi wreck.

CCRC Cruise

The Cruise Bug has struck again. No one fancied beating all the way Cherbourg into a 5 to 7. Arcadia, Intepid & Slippers are making the best of it and are in Yarmouth and Lunching in Freshwater. We might try Cherbourg tomorrow’.

Shallow Bar

Very shallow over the bar Sunday afternoon with Intrepid ! Followed by lovely sunset at Itchenor and some experimental photos using various settings on my phone. We were surrounded by thousands of jellyfish floating past – never seen so many at once.
